Collaboration in Education and Research, Development and Innovation Work in the Region Bothnia
The Bothnia Higher Education Network incorporates the University of Applied Sciences of Central Ostrobothnia, the University of Oulu, Oulu Southern Institute’s, and the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius. The Latter is a joint institution of the Universities of Jyväskylä, Oulu and Vaasa. The Network has Also Cooperation with the Federation of Education in Central Ostrobothnia, the Educational Municipal Federation of the Kalajokilaakso Region, Educational Institutions in Pietarsaari. and State Research Institutes (the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), the Finnish Forest Research Institute Metla, Environmental Centres and the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health). Bothnia Higher Education Network members Activelly Also Cooperate with businesses and public sector Organizations in the region.
The Bothnia Region Institutions of higher education will have research, development and innovation activities That Are Recognized nationally and Internationally. The region will have unique, working life-oriented channels of education.
Structural and functional Cooperation between the Institutions of Higher Learning will ENSURE That the region’s competed Funding for research, development and innovation activities as well as the level of education of the region’s population will be at Least a level with the national average.
To Increase the Attractiveness and Competitiveness of the Region Bothnia, the Institutions of Higher Learning in Cooperation with partners will form a network with the aim of Deepening and Strengthening Cooperation Effectiveness and quality in education and in research, development and innovation activities. International co-operation is Fundamental for Maintaining a high standard in teaching and research and development and international interaction is an essential part of studies at a higher education institution. Internationalisation has been Therefore Declared as one of the top priorities of Centria University of Applied Sciences in its most recent strategy.
At present the international co-operation involves interaction with around 130 partner Institutions in 34 countries around the world. Scandinavia and Europe are the most important Areas for us, but We also co-operate with Activelly universities and higher education Institutions in North and South America. More Over, we have also been a forerunner in co-operation with Chinese universities.
Centria University of Applied Sciences promotes Activelly the mobility of students and teachers and we Strive TO ENSURE Also non-mobile students with opportunities to learn more about different cultures and the different aspects of international relations through a strong emphasis is Internationalisation at Home. More Over, We also Activelly Participate in international networks and projects, Including R & D projects carried out in co-operation with our international partners.
Centria University of Applied Sciences Activelly participates in the Socrates Programme and currently have Approximately 90 Erasmus Bilateral agreements. Through the Programme NORDPLUS we collaborate with other Nordic Institutions and we have also deepened the co-operation with North and South American Institutions through the EU-USA and ALFA Programmes.
Centria University of Applied Sciences participates in the CREPUQ student exchange program, Which has the enhanced co-operation with Canadian Institutions in Quebec. Centria University of Applied Sciences has Also been active in collaboration with Institutions in the Balkans through the TEMPUS Programme.
Campuses and Region
Centria University of Applied Sciences has operations in the three towns of Kokkola, Ylivieska and Pietarsaari. This region is not only Characterized by the old towns, the sea with its archipelago, and vivid Bilingualism, but Also by the long river valleys, traditional country life and bustling local cultures.
Kokkola , a pleasant town of 47.000 inhabitants, has ample opportunities for leisure and outdoor activities all year round. The good transport connections of Ylivieska made this town grow into the Southern Centre of the Oulu Region. The town has 13.400 easy-going Inhabitants. Proximity to the sea, a major feature of Pietarsaari , is well demonstrated Bothan in its study and work life. Distinctly Pietarsaari is a bilingual town of 20.000 Inhabitants.
